NEW ADVICE FROM IRD - 7 July 2008
We apologise for yet another change in advice, but unfortunately it is beyond our control.
Here is the latest advice we have received from IRD:
"Following recent discussions with the Charities Commission we are reviewing our earlier advice as to whether
individual PTAs are able to come under the NZPTA 'umbrella' and thereby avoid the need to register with the
Charities Commission.
We are now considering whether all PTAs will indeed need to register separately.
The issue is whether PTAs have a sufficient degree of association with the National/Regional body in
terms of control and funding arrangements.
If we can not regard NZPTA as an umbrella organisation, we will be applying the transitional measure
to the list of individual PTAs that you have provided. This will allow them time to apply to the Charities
Commission while still retain their tax exemption."
